If you’ve ever owned goats, you know they’re full of personality—and plenty of surprises. But behind those bright eyes and curious attitudes, good hoof care is one of the most important (and most overlooked) parts of keeping them healthy.
At this year’s Tri-State Homesteading Conference, Regina Utz, Agriculture & Natural Resources Extension Agent with the University of Kentucky, will lead an interactive session that gets down to the basics—literally—to the hooves. Her session, “Hooves to Health,” will demonstrate the proper way to trim and maintain goat hooves to prevent common issues like lameness, infections, and overgrowth.

Raised by generations of strong farm women, Regina knows firsthand that healthy animals start with hands-on care. She and her family raise goats, cattle, and cut flowers in Northern Kentucky, combining practical experience with Extension expertise to help local farmers and homesteaders succeed.
Participants will learn how often to trim, what tools to use, and how to recognize signs of hoof problems before they spread. Whether you have two goats or twenty, Regina’s approachable style and real-world knowledge will give you the confidence to tackle hoof care at home—and keep your herd standing strong.
